Dug up of the rabbit hole?

For Hussein Chalayan's graduate collection 'The Tangent Flows' in 1994 at Central Saint Martins he buried a series of silk dresses covered in iron filings into his own garden and let them stay there for weeks. Just before the show he dug them out and the result was as unexpected as beautiful.

Jewels for Alice

Jewellery designer Tom Binns released a collection, after being approached last year to create an official series inspired by Time Burtons up coming move, Alice In Wonderland.

Binns has focused on a selection of iconic characters and scenes as a basis for his designs - the White Queen, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen, the Tea Party and the Cheshire Cat. To created 40 pieces, some of which will be available from the Selfridges Wonder Room.

Alice in Wonder Room

To celebrate the opening of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Selfridges London has opened its own pop-up shop in honour.

Hosting a selection of Alice-inspired designer peices, costumes from the film, and exclusive window displays.

The Wonderland Bug......Can anyone escape?

Well, definitley down here in London, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland has truly taken over. Almost every high street shop worth anything has had a "Wonderland" front window, currently ruled over by Selfridges.
Almost every designer has jumped on board, Stella McCartney, Nicolas Kirkwood, Swarovski and Tom Binns..... to name a few:

There even is now a nail paint by O.P.I. named after the Mad Hatter......

I'm thinking that last October, we were right on trend with our exhibition. Let the Tea Party begin! And for anyone feeling nostalgic, if you have Spotify you can access the original Disney soundtrack!

So, as I sing " A very Merry Unbirthday to Me", I'll walk down to the cinema and see what the fuss is all about....hoping I'm not as crazy as a Hatter......

Sambourne's Zodiacs

Although some are missing! Very upset about Pisces not being part of the crowd. Although, I'm pretty sure this wasn't your horoscope at the back of The Sun (where all your dreams come true) but some twisted rendition of a very strange year ahead.

Punch's Almanack for 1872. A rather strange year I assume.

Mr Punch's Designs After Nature

Well, definitley a more literal interpretation of taking nature into fashion.......
Sambourne really did seem to enjoy taking the mick out of fashion. There are loads of illustrations with strange bird hats, one scary spider hat, bugs, plants, extreme fashion trends and all to poke
fun at the bizarre things the fashionable crowd of Victorian England might have thrown at society.

Which ones would you prefer to wear? Now, although not for the faint of heart, might I suggest the following Bug Dresses?

Stella in Wonderland

Stella McCartney's first costume design foray was a curious collaboration with Disney ahead of the release of Alice in Wonderland.  Plexiglass rabbits, top hats and spades adorn heavy gold chains, just right to survive falling down the rabbit hole.  Available now in store, but would probably look just as good to adorn the Sambourne's fish tank come April 22nd...

Avril Lavigne -Alice In Wonderland

Moya, have you seen Avril's new video? She too has jumped on the Tim band wagon. From the album 'Almost Alice', Avril's single is the official track from Tim's Alice in Wonderland adaption.

"Be There"

Even Smirnoff have jumped on the Burton bandwagon by channelling the 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party' aesthetic in this new ad.  It's also a tad frat party meets A Midsummer Night's Dream...

Perhaps they wouldn't mind sponsoring our Private View?
